Steve Middleton, Founder and Master Builder

Steve started his career as a City & Guilds qualified carpenter and gained essential hands on knowledge of work with reputable Master Craftsmen and Master Builders. In 1983, he then established his own building company SCM Building Contractors and has never looked back. With an expert team of tradesmen covering Kent, Surrey and Sussex, Steve has built an enviable reputation for providing top quality work and in particular is known for his attention to detail. His understanding of the project from planning and design through to completion and his ability to earn the clients trust has meant he regularly receives word of mouth recommendations – the highest accolade.

He was particularly pleased to receive the Sussex Heritage Trust Award for his work at  the Piltdown Golf Club as it meant he had gained recognition for his skill, attention to detail and quality of workmanship.

Indeed, Steve’s personable manner and approachability has lead to firm friendships being formed with past clients regularly keeping in touch, even when they move home! ! Steve genuinely shares an interest in his clients lives and this usually means he has stayed well beyond the working day. One of the most memorable being when he was approached by The Late Dame Thora Herd who needed to have her beautiful Mews house in London renovated. Steve remembers sharing many a story over a cup of tea with her and on one occasion even took her to the dentist in his van!
